willpower and excerise
at the gym i've been increasing my cardio steadly and damn it's tough. everytime i try and increase the cardio i always try and come up with some sort of routine to make my body weak to not feel it.
almost like gimmick to trick my brain into think that it's not in pain. but, to my surprise although at first i thought i was just tricking my brain but I think I'm onto something.
i know that maintenance is easier than change. to go from still to running is harder than walking to running. why? because the motion is not in place and you need to come up with the force. in other words, the change in states are far greater. each time we change this state where is a large use of energy in both physical and mental.
depending on the context the mental may be great than the physical. but, in this case for exercise it's the change in physical energy use is difficult on my body. but, i realized that my body adapts. if i can keep moving the body in the exact same distance and stay on my cardio most of the change is 0. So, my body does not need to expend extra energy to match the change.
Since, maintenance is easier to sustain and do, our body adapts and makes it reasonable. Shit, it sill hurts but it gets much easier than if you were to change the speed, stride, and incline.
For example, one thing i noticed was if i ever used the side handles to rebalnce or to reduce the weight on my legs i would instant regret it. cause my body has to expend so much more energy to get back into my regular state. whenever, i do cardio i literally make it an effort to not touch it unless I'm tired.
So, how does this apply to willpower. It's honestly just like studying, focusing, or other less physical straininess. Willpower is the under cover energy level that affects my focus. Which is just why i realized this much applies to studying and "deep work".
If i treat deep work in the same way then that means I need to maintain the same intensity of focus of work, reducing the change in focus as well as i can. As i increase the time my will power drain is being sided as hard and it makes it easier to spend more time working in a deep state. which will be beneficial to my goals as i can learn harder faster and more.
So, an experiment i can do is test this out today. When i do my assignment I'll make it a goal to stay focus at a similar level. I'm going to aim for what it feels like to write. I think writing is a good benchmark cause it uses the brain constantly to form words, grammar, and spelling but it's not too draining. I'm not sure how it would work with coding or studying since there's more change in difficulty. But, i think if i can bridge my theory with results this would be game-changing.
To summarize, i need to keep a simular energy output when focus inorder to stay deep for a longer duration and make it the less resistance on my will power. Hehe i sound like a manhwa character with focus and willpower as attributes.
